Portraits

Newborn infants look more often at the human face than at other images. Children draw faces at an early age. Adults who have no training in drawing can tell you if a face is "not right." The human face is likewise fascinating to me.

Figurative

Life drawing is the foundation of most art training. There is something about drawing and painting the human figure that informs all of my art work. Can you not recognize your best friend some distance away just by his/her shape and movements?

Animals

Animal portraits are often desired by the people who love their pet. That is how I have gotten into doing these--by request. Hair or fur can be portrayed with pastel quite easily. The trick here is getting good photos from which to work.

Flowers

Even those artists  who generally paint other subjects are sometimes drawn to the beauty of flowers.

Landscapes

Often in my travels, the new landscapes make me want to pick up my brushes. Once I do a sketch or return to my studio to paint, my memory of that experience is strengthened. Maybe you would like to travel with me via my paintings.

Still Life

Glass objects appeal to me. The way that light and color are reflected and refracted is a delight. Other objects, which have significance, may also appear in my still life paintings.
